Arjun Mark-1A Main Battle Tank
WEAPON SYSTEM OVERVIEW
The Arjun Mark-1A is a third-generation main battle tank developed by the Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (CVRDE) of DRDO and manufactured by the Heavy Vehicles Factory (HVF) in Avadi, Chennai. Incorporating 89 major upgrades over the baseline Arjun Mk-1—including 14 major design enhancements—the Mk-1A represents a formidable heavy breakthrough platform specifically engineered for high-intensity armored warfare in the desert and semi-desert sectors of Rajasthan and Punjab.
STRATEGIC DETERRENCE & COMBAT ROLE
The Arjun Mk-1A provides the Indian Army's Strike Corps with unmatched battlefield survivability and first-round-hit probability in open desert terrain. Its 120mm rifled main gun fires Fin-Stabilized Armoured-Piercing Discarding Sabot (FSAPDS) rounds alongside indigenous anti-tank guided missiles (SAMHO). Its Kanchan modular composite armour, combined with Explosive Reactive Armour (ERA Mk-II) and a computerized fire-control system with panoramic thermal sights, ensures hunter-killer combat lethality 24/7.
OPERATIONAL DEPLOYMENT & COMMAND FOOTPRINT
Formally inducted into the 43 Armoured Regiment and 75 Armoured Regiment of the Indian Army, primarily positioned along the Western border (Rajasthan Desert Strike Sectors).
