K9 Vajra-T 155mm Tracked Self-Propelled Howitzer
WEAPON SYSTEM OVERVIEW
The K9 Vajra-T is a 155mm, 52-calibre tracked self-propelled artillery system manufactured in India by Larsen & Toubro at the Armoured Systems Complex in Hazira, Gujarat. Adapted from the South Korean K9 Thunder, the Vajra-T features over 50% indigenous content by value, including Indian fire control systems, automatic ammunition handling mechanisms, digital ballistics computers, and specialized high-altitude engine modifications.
STRATEGIC DETERRENCE & COMBAT ROLE
The K9 Vajra-T solved a four-decade deficiency in heavy mobile self-propelled artillery for the Indian Army. In addition to desert maneuver warfare, its successful winter deployment in Eastern Ladakh demonstrated its ability to engage targets at 40+ km ranges in sub-zero -30°C conditions, providing devastating fire support along high-altitude mountain corridors.
OPERATIONAL DEPLOYMENT & COMMAND FOOTPRINT
Active regiments operational with strike corps in desert sectors and deployed with 14 Corps in Eastern Ladakh.
