PROGRAMME OVERVIEW
Project 75-Alpha is the Indian Navy's classified program to construct six 6,000-tonne nuclear-powered attack submarines (SSNs). Powered by an indigenous pressurized water reactor (PWR) developed by Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), these SSNs will possess virtually unlimited submerged endurance, high continuous underwater speeds (30+ knots), and heavy vertical missile launch batteries.
STRATEGIC POWER PROJECTION
Nuclear attack submarines are the apex predators of modern naval warfare. Project 75-Alpha will provide India with the ability to maintain permanent submerged combat patrols across the entire Indian Ocean Region and deep into the Pacific choke points.
